How can I put photographs on a site and put them up for sale?
I have the site designed but want to know what options I have to put the photographs on the site so users can purchase them. I’m doing this for a friend’s part time photography business. I’m intermediate with web design but have never done anything involving users purchasing from a site.
I’m thinking of something simple like placing the photographs on the site and directly link them to another “well known” trusted site where they can purchase it. For example, having an ebay store with all the photographs in it but having a website for the business as well.
I just wanted to know what other methods an intermediate web designer would be able to do.. thanks a lot.
What you are wanting to do is set up an e-commerce site with shopping cart which doing from scratch is not easy as you have to learn access and create a data base and etc.
There are software programs on the market that allow you to create your web pages using a shopping cart but can be costly. Some you even have to have your own server.
Many websites host web pages. Yahoo for one has an inexpensive web hosting that also contains a shopping cart and secured checkout. I would suggest checking into that.
If this is not an option, then I think linking them to the e-bay store will be fine as they can pay using paypal in which to purchase.
The web developing business is ever changing and growing. I have been designing web sites for 4 years now and still haven’t learned how to create a shopping cart/e-commerce site from scratch yet.
