What does poetry mean to you?

We all have our own definitions of what poetry is. There is no concrete definition of what’s right in poetry.

To me, poetry is a way to pour my inner thoughts and feelings on paper instead of physically expressing them to others.

What is your definition of poetry?

I agree, but I think there is so much more. I like how Robert Frost defines poetry in his essay “The Figure a Poem Makes”: A poem should end not in a great clarification– that on which cults and relgions are made up of– but rather, a momentary stay against confusion. (Loosely quoted). Needless to say he was writing in the modernist movement, but I think he sums up poetry well. A poem creates a momentary stay of wisdom, a clear definiton of a certain emotion or feeling, that does not last forever but for a breif moment of clarity.
