No one has the opportunity to choose his or her own name at birth. You have the right to change it when you reach legal age, but you have to live with the one your parents gave you until then. Our names are very important to us. Therefore, naming your child places a great deal of responsibility on us as parents. For the most part our children will carry that name for the rest of their lives. Names have a way of defining us throughout our journey through life. You wouldn’t want to give your male child a female name or visa versa. Some names have come to define strength over the years while others have not. Who would have thought that names could mean so much?
You can buy books upon books that will assist you in choosing the right name for your child. These books will list the most popular names over the years for males and females as well as the names that have been less popular. The value of a name cannot be underestimated. Many parents choose names that are very unusual and different. Others go with very sound and traditional names. It seems like parents are spending more and more time each year trying to come up with a name that will enhance their child’s identity. The process of coming up with a name for your child has become a journey of searching and examination. Names are that important.
For the most part we are content with our names and it is actually our personality that defines us as much as our name. However, some names so seem to stand out in our mind. For example most people around the world know the name Elvis. Elvis Presley was a famous rock and roll singer and actor. However it was not the name Elvis that made him famous, it was the fact that he was a great entertainer. On the other hand the famous American actor John Wayne has a famous name. That however was his stage name. His real name was Marion Michael Morrison. Would that name have suited a tough cowboy image? It can be argued that a name does serve a valid purpose in our lives.
There are so many cute names out there. Some parents name their child after a flower or a month of the year. Many times we choose our names by naming our children after someone that we admire and look up to. No matter how you look at it we put a great deal of thought and emotion into a name. Many people like to express their feelings and emotions about names in poetry. There really is something in a name.
