What are the rules for tattooing a copyrighted image on your body?
I’m thinking of my next next tattoo and I want it to incorporate my love for photography so i was just wondering if there are any rules.
Also, anyone have any photography related designs? I’m not to fond of the simply camera outlines I like detail and such. I was thinking of maybe a filmstrip or something.
The only rules for copyrighting, that really, really apply to tattooing involve what is on the wall of the studio. A few years back, Warner Brothers tried to sue a bunch of tattooists that were known to have used their characters, y’know, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn and the like. Anyhow, long story short, the courts ruled that the tattooed images did not make money for the wearers, but actually promoted the cartoon characters, and therefore the tattoo studios were not liable, and didn’t owe them squat. A great day for the art. At any rate, the only people you want to be wary of might be Disney, cause they’re so ruthless. But on skin, most anything is fair game. We just cannot put copyrighted stuff up on the walls. Bring in your film scenes. Easy cake.
