I am a new photographer. I recently booked every day events. What should I charge? "?
I started a photography business two months ago, and have been booked every single weekend, plus several days a week since! I did not charge anyone for months, because I wanted to build my portfolio quickly and gain some experience. Now that I my photography website and running, and several more events coming this month, people were asking me a price table … What new photographers are charging these days? I want to attract customers with lower prices IN for a while, and my name there. Can you fall for me? Here's what I was giving to … 1-2 hours free photo shoot photos on a CD for the family to review and keep all the edited photos and enhanced photos on CD for families to keep. Now people are wondering how much I charge and I have no idea what to say! This is just for my lack of experience? I shoot weddings, family photos, commitments, portraits, everything … People say I'm really good at photography.
You got good answers for Pooky, fhotoace and others, I will not add to that. But a comment … Have you noticed that no of them have indicated that you should charge based on your inexperience! The fact that you are a newcomer, it is the case person, but yours. If you do well, professional work quality, then you're a professional. Saying you "want to draw customers with lower prices to get your name out there "is a sure sign that you will fail in this endeavor. Do not fall into the trap of giving your work out and hoping to one day raise your prices. You're either good enough to charge, or you're not. Think of your costs and the value of your time. Come with figure that is comfortable for you. Some customers will agree to it, others do not. Then go out there every day and do the best job you can – Always under promise and over deliver.
