Should I study photograpy because of this reason….?

Okay i am 17 years old and will be going to college next fall(where I don’t know yet). Anyway Everytime I look at photo in a magazine or online I can’t help but feel touched by the detail of certain pics the photographer has created. I don’t know why,but I find myself in love with black&White photos more because they capture an image and tell a story photos with color can’t. I feel like they capture and emotion an event and has a plot, a storyline. I don’t know a thing about photography, but would love to pursue it in college as a minor(since art majors aren’t very promising and a portfolio is required to be accepted). I want to learn how to create my own kind of creative photos like all those other photographers that take wonderful pictures. I just want to be able to capture the moment and be able to look at it with awe and wonder. I want to feel that pride of knowing I did that no one else. That I was responsible for such a beautiful piece of art.

Should I pursue photography?

There are several types of photography in my mind. There are the snapshots which comprise most of the pictures taken these days (taken by the average bear). There are the artsy photos that are intended for sale, but are by their very nature unique imaginative, creative. That sounds like what you’re talking about. There are the mass produce quality photos that a pro photographer produces, but they put very little heart into the effort because they are cranking out quantity over quality. And there are the smaller time photography studios that still focus on both quality and quantity (because they have to stay afloat with profitability). I wouldn’t pursue this in college unless you plan to make a job out of it. It won’t benefit you if you’re going to be something unrelated. Its a fun time and you sound like you have the passion for it. Just think it through before you invest your college savings into it.
