Freelance Sports Photography Rates?
I decided to do some freelance work on the side and found a local magazine in the Midwest (USA), covering local high school sports. They have just started and have only put a couple of questions, but I sent them some examples of my work from a football match in high school, I turned last week. They decided they liked One of my plans and now they wonder what I charge. I've been looking online and can not find a loading rate which most people. I am new to what they are, and I prefer not to ask them and do not get what its worth. I have no idea what an amount would be reasonable. What Ballpark range should I ask for an action shot Hi-res single prob. take 1 / 4 page in a new local magazine which has prob not much of a budget?
Well, you can charge for time usage rights. These rates are based on the circulation of the publication, if it is perhaps less than 25,000 would be $ 125 just for a / 4 page 1. Forget they do not have a budget … they have the budget for the work done pre-press … they can pay as little about yourself. Make sure they are the only rights they get. If your photo is hot, you may find they want to use for advertising later … which is a different deal … much better for you … but that can come later.
